Robert Mapplethorpe. The Forms of the Classic is a retrospectivecurated by Denis Curti showcasing over 200 photographs by the American artist, exploring his dialogue with classical sculpture and his pursuit of formal perfection. From male and female nudes to flowers, from early collages to portraits and self-portraits, the exhibition traces Mapplethorpe’s aesthetic evolution and visual poetics. The display, designed using Antartica paint by San Marco Group, guides visitors through a chromatic journey reflecting the phases of his work: salmon pink, shades of lavender, blue, and a striking red that marks the exhibition’s core, where images of classical statuary merge with contemporary portraits echoing ancient poses and gestures. The color scheme emphasizes the fluidity of Mapplethorpe’s artistic inquiry. The exhibition is supported by Fondazione Cini and Le Stanze della Fotografia, with the contribution of San Marco Group, reaffirming its commitment to art and the local community.
